RADON GAS and TERMITES
What is Radon?
Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. Radon is odorless, tasteless, and invisible to the naked eye. It is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in the US and accounts for about 20,000 deaths a year. The EPA estimates that 1 in 15 homes in the US have high levels of radon. Wake County is believed to be a moderate risk and is classified a Zone 2 by the United State Environmental Protection Agency. Any home can have a radon problem. This means new homes and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes and homes with or without basements. It is impossible to determine if your home has high radon levels without the appropriate testing. For more information on this deadly gas go to the United States Environmental Protection Agency Website.
What can termites and other wood destroying insect do to my home?
Termites cause billions of dollars in damage each year. Termites are often called “silent destroyers” since they can thrive inside your home without noticeable damage. Unfortunately, once termite activity is visible, your home may have already sustained significant damage. Termite Infestation Probability Zone (TIP Zone) shows North Carolina as TIP Zone 2 which means moderate to heavy infestation. A typical homeowner’s insurance policy does not cover destruction caused by termites. Therefore, it is extremely important that homeowner’s understand the threat of termites and take the necessary steps to protect their home. An annual inspection for wood destroying insects is recommended.
